The Origins

Joseph Khargie founded Math Thru Music (MTM) in 2014 however, the inspiration for the program came much earlier. In 2007, he, along with Peter Karl launched Basketball 4 Life (B4L), the largest free, organized basketball league in Toronto. This became the catalyst for a DJ program that would become the precursor of 1st annual So You Think You Can DJ Finale (SYTYCDJ) in 2012. Over a decade later, more than 18,000 young people have competed, learned and enjoyed school-based DJ tournaments both in-person and online.

This genesis of Math Thru Music originated as an innovative program that utilizes the music that students loved with the math lessons they hated. Due to the success of the program, MTM was officially incorporated in 2017 as a legal entity. A year later, the first MTM kit was released; an all encompassing DJ console, copyrighted curriculum, music licenses, laptop and much more.

To date, MTM has continued to evolve and has branched out with Go Create It programming.
